GROOVE SALOON

Habitual Vancouver renters Daniel McBurnie and Graham Gomez release their first track under a new moniker. With a delusively up-tempo tune that captures the uncomfortable and heart-wrenching utterings and pauses during a romantic breakup - Groove Saloon finally answers the question: Will these guys ever release some music? The answer, it seems, is yes. If I Don’t Make It signals a massive shift for the songwriting duo in sound, and certainly in process. At one time, the two were making folk music with their previous, and most notable group “Good For Grapes”. The band won the illustrious Peak Performance Project and found themselves in studios like Vancouver’s iconic “The Warehouse”, working with producers Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Aerosmith, Franz Ferdinand) and Howard Redekopp (Mother Mother, Tegan and Sara). Today, they have crafted the tight pop production of “If I Don’t Make It” using a single SM58 microphone in a dimly lit bedroom, supported only by their cats and an awful lot of giant grocery store sandwiches. The sound can be described as an unholy union of Tame Impala and Backstreet Boys, blending elements of psych-pop, hip-hop, and rock into an intoxicating cosmic gumbo. The lively music video was also produced with shockingly few resources. The duo harnessed wax paper and cardboard light boxes, and recorded their moves with a newly upgraded smartphone. Dan remarked about the process, "I can't get half my widgets to work, and Siri won't talk to me anymore.
